French Bread Pan
I love using a french bread pan when making baguettes, french bread, sub sandwich or hoagie rolls. This pan is non stick, aerates the loaves as they cook and the roundness gives them structure ensuring a perfect bread every time. Invest in one of these and you will find yourself using it all the time!
This is our favorite Sourdough French Bread Recipe.

Sandwich Loaf/Bread Pan
I use this pan every other day! My family prefers to eat sourdough sandwich bread. It’s easier to toast and make into sandwiches for school lunches. It’s the perfect size for a 400-500 gram sourdough loaf and I promise you will find this to be the best pan too! And the best part is that it fits inside my Lodge Dutch oven making the sourdough loaf perfect every single time!
These are some of our favorite sourdough bread recipes that fit great in the sandwich loaf pan, The Best Sourdough Bread, Simple Artisan Loaf and No Knead Bread.

Banneton Bread Baskets
These baskets come in all different sizes depending on the size sourdough loaf you make. They are perfect for making the beautiful round bakery loaf we all know and love. This banneton helps proof your dough and keep it formed for good structure in your breads rise. I love creating beautiful round loaves to give away.
These are some of our favorite sourdough bread recipes you can make in the banneton basket, The Best Sourdough Bread, Simple Artisan Loaf and No Knead Bread.

Lodge Cast Iron Dutch Oven
Along with my sandwich loaf pan, I use this Dutch oven every other day for my sourdough baking. It perfectly fits my loaf pan for perfect sourdough sandwich loaves because it’s the perfect height for even the most opened crumb sourdough loaf. It evenly heats your sourdough bread, allowing for steam to help rise your bread perfectly every time. Using a dutch oven ensures a perfects springy loaf at every bake. It’s a bit more expensive than all my other gift ideas, but it’s an absolute must in my opinion.
I bake all of my favorite sourdough bread recipes in this dutch oven, The Best Sourdough Bread, Simple Artisan Loaf and No Knead Bread.

Large Glass Bowls
These are helpful when it comes to fermenting your dough and viewing the progress along with way. It’s easier to judge how its grown when it’s in a clear open bowl. I love the size too because I can double recipes and it ferments great too. I use this bowl for every single sourdough recipe I make that I actually have two since I bake so often! It’s the perfect bowl for fermenting all recipes!

Food Nanny Dough Hook
I absolutely love this dough hook. It is hand made in Utah with love, care and perfect design. This tool will not fall apart on you, and mixes pancake batter like a boss! It is the best dough hook you can find, and the handcrafted beauty makes for a beautiful sourdough gift for anyone. Highly recommend!
This dough hook is especially perfect for mixing up our favorite Sourdough Pancakes and Waffles! If you have never tried this recipe, you must! Be warned that you will be ruined for all other pancakes that you ever eat again but it’s worth it, I promise. This recipe is simply THE BEST!

Plastic Bench Scrapers
These are a must if you’re baking sourdough. They form and help scrape dough from any bowl. They carefully help scrape off dough from your counter too. And the flat side is a great tool for cutting your dough into pieces. This is my cheapest gift idea, but may be the most used out of all of them! Something so simple will change someones sourdough life if they do not have one of these ๐

Dueling Pastry Wheel
This one is another small and cheaper item. I do not use this one too often but when I do it is extremely useful! I love to use this double cutting pastry wheel to make sourdough crackers, pie crust or cutting dough to make unique shapes and knots.
This pastry wheel is perfect when making sourdough crackers. You can cut them straight or wavy and it cuts them perfect every time!

Shower Caps
Hear me out. This one sounds strange but I promise it’s the best idea if you’ve never used them before! Using plastic shower caps to cover your dough bowl! It keeps the dough from drying out and they are reusable! I buy a pack of 50 at a time because after about 10-15 uses they do need to be replaced. But this is the best hack for covering dough and I will never go back to using a damp towel again!

Pizza Paddle
It took me several returns and a very long time to find a pizza paddle of this size! But I finally found the perfect one and it gets used weekly. We make pizza every weekend at our house and I needed to easily get the dough in and out of the oven without burning myself on the pizza stone every time. This long stick and wide frame helps with all those issues. It is a pizza must and I can no longer live without it. If I make pizza at my parents house, you better believe I’m taking it along with me. It’s the best, give it a try!
We make pizza every single week and this dough is the best. You can make it thin or thick and it puffs perfectly every single time! Recipe here.

Seedling Heat Mat
This is a super unique sourdough gift idea but again, a necessity for me. Sourdough thrives in a warm environment, but that can be tricker with a colder house through the winter months. This seedling mat is a wonderful tool to help rise your dough in a cooler home. It lays flat on your counter and emits a very small amount of heat. You can almost hardly tell how warm it is to the touch, but it’s just enough to warm the bottom of your bowl and help jump start and activate those hungry sourdough microbes that help with fermentation. I use this everyday through the winter and I highly recommend this addition to your sourdough collection if you live in a cold area.

English Muffin Cutter
Okay, this one is just plain fun! We make Sourdough English muffins on the regular and cutting open an english muffin to expose all its nooks and crannies is just the best! This is one of those unnecessary but fun kitchen tools that we have found joy in owning. I love a good english muffin slathered in butter and this tool helps open the english muffin to where it catches all that butter and keeps it on the muffin. It’s definitely more of a fun, unique sourdough gift idea ๐
We make English Muffins weekly. We call them “muffs” at our house and they are a staple. This recipe is so simple and they’re perfect every single time.

Tortilla Press
I love using a tortilla press to make sourdough tortillas and sourdough naan. It helps press and flatten the dough into a very thin layer. I do continue to roll the dough a little more with a rolling pin after I press it, but it cuts my rolling time in half because it mostly flattens the dough and then I just roll a bit more to make it extra thin before cooking them. I didn’t used to have a tortilla press, but now that I own one, it’s been such a time saver for me!
We love to make sourdough tortillas. There is nothing like a freshly made tortilla–nothing!

Cambro Storage Containers
A question I get asked so often is how do I store my sourdough? The answer is Cambro Containers! They are a large plastic tub that fits my sourdough breads so nicely! They seal tightly and help keep your sourdough fresh longer. I have used these for years and they are my go to for sourdough storage!

Hello!!
With your seedling mat, do you leave your starter on it constantly? How long should your starter be on it?
simpleisgourmet
I personally do not leave my starter on the seedling mat. My house is warm enough where I don’t need to use it for my starter. Plus it ferments the starter very quickly. But if your house is colder, then you may need to use the seedling mat. I use the seedling mat when fermenting recipes so my dough can rise.

How long do you recommend leaving my starter on the seedling mat?
