Up until a few years ago, I didn’t know there was a difference between salts.
Growing up I felt like I was the only person who didn’t put table salt on my food because I didn’t care for the taste.
When I discovered unrefined salt, it rocked my taste buds! Now I crave the taste and add salt to everything! (Well, not everything, but you get my point)
Alright, enough about me, let’s talk salt.
Why hate on table salt?
Did you know that table salt is heavily processed? First of all, it is bleached to make it white. This process strips the salt of its precious minerals leaving nothing beneficial for consumption.
And secondly, to make matters worse the salt companies add additives to prevent the salt from clumping together. Seriously, why?
Have you read the back of a salt container? Check out the label yourself. If your salt says anything other than straight salt, do your body a favor and toss it!
Now before you get salty at me for stating the facts, bare with me and keep reading to hear about the benefits of unrefined salt.
What are the good salts?
The good salts are unrefined salts and here are some examples:
- Sea Salt
- Pink Himalayan Salt
- Celtic Salt
- Redmond’s Real Salt
These are the good ones that you will find on many store shelves. Now, why are they different?
Well for one, you can see the difference. If you’re used to table salt, you know that color is pure white. But unrefined salts vary in unique colors. This is because of the mineral content like potassium, magnesium, calcium etc.
In my opinion, the most fascinating part of unrefined salt is the trace mineral content. If you have used Pink Himalayan salt before, you can see the color variation within the salt crystals.
But here is the mind blowing kicker. Pink Himalayan salt contains 84 trace minerals! And Redmond’s real salt contains 60+ trace minerals! Isn’t that incredible?
These precious minerals contain essential, rich benefits that our bodies need (and crave) to function optimally.
Many of us are mineral deficient and we don’t even realize it. Adding unrefined salts to your diet, and making this simple switch is so easy.
In fact if you are learning this all for the first time, I challenge you to go buy one of these salts from the store next time you’re there.
Once you feast your taste buds on mineral rich beautiful salt, you will never go back. I promise!
