We live in the Midwest and sometimes it’s just too cold to go outside and grill hamburgers.
So I started making hamburgers in the oven and they are such a hit. And what makes them over the top is that they are baked in butter–yes, the star of the show!
Now that may sound like a bit much to you, but at our house we are all about the real healthy fats. And the more butter the better. Want to learn why? Visit my Healthy Fats page to ketchup–I mean catch up 😉
I have been making these easy oven hamburgers for several years and they’re so simple they don’t even need a recipe. However sometimes cooking times are helpful so here is your easy oven hamburger recipe post 🙂
I love to make my own burger buns from sourdough. This is an extra step but worth your time if you think ahead! Sourdough elevates any meal that requires bread!
If you follow me on social media I have been making these for a while. They always receive so many comments that I decided to officially make these into an official recipe.
These make for such a quick week night meal. Or you could make a whole 9×13 pan and make these as sliders for a party. I promise these are such a hit that you will be making them over and over again.
Ingredients to make Easy Oven Hamburgers or cheeseburger sliders
- Slider Buns (8-12 Homemade or Store bought like Hawaiian Rolls or slider buns)
- Ground meat (We love venison or beef)
- Sliced Cheese of your choosing (We love to use two different kinds like cheddar, havarti, provolone, gouda, pepper jack etc.)
- Mustard
- Egg
- Worcestershire sauce
- Garlic powder, Onion Powder, Paprika, Chili Powder
- Onion
- Butter
- Salt and Pepper
- Secret Sauce aka Animal Style (Optional but really makes the burger taste restaurant quality)
How to make Easy Oven Hamburgers or cheeseburger sliders
- Either make ahead your own homemade buns, or purchase a pack of premade slider buns from the store. Slice buns in half horizontally down the middle and place into a 9×13 pan.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a separate 9×13 pan squeeze a generous layer of mustard to the bottom of the pan. Enough to spread a thin layer down to act as a non stick for the meat.
- To a medium size bowl add ground meat, Worcestershire sauce, egg, spices, salt and pepper and mix all together by hand.
- Add meat mixture to 9×13 pan and press down into an even single layer reaching all sides of the pan. The meat will be thin but as it cooks it will shrink down. Add to the oven and bake for 20 minutes.
- While meat is cooking, sauté chopped onion in butter until caramelized.
- To the 9×13 pan with halved, sliced hamburger buns, add the first of your two sliced cheeses to each bun. Next add entire slab of cooked meat overtop the first cheese layer. Then add the second layer of sliced cheese on top of the meat. Then layer the sautéed onions. Next the secret sauce if using. And lastly add the top layer of buns.
- Melt 1 stick of butter with 1/2 tsp garlic powder and a pinch of salt. Pour melted butter mixture evenly over all buns.
- Cook at 350 degrees F for 15 more minutes.
- Serve warm, enjoy 🙂
